Enjoy our new-look Heritage Gallery

New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. Monday - Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, Sunday 12 noon - 5 pm. http://www.frhm.org/ / or  craig.massey@state.nm.us  Dramatic changes have taken place in our Heritage Gallery over the past several months. A new 69-feet-long, 10-feet-tall mural depicting ancient agriculture in the area welcomes visitors into the gallery. Museum staff members worked with muralist Tony Pennock and several NMSU Students to create the colorful piece. Another addition to the gallery is the re-created mercantile that allows visitors to step back into another era.

Espina Street. 575-647-5900. wagg8989@msn.com Live at the Boba Cafe April 3rd and 4th, Almitri & Bennet. This fantastic guitar/percussion duo from Ciudad Juarez will be performing an eclectic fusion of blues, jazz, ragtime, bossa nova, and other popular genres of contemporary popular music. Blending Guitar with some very unique percussion pieces, these two men have found what Almitri Diazmunoz describes as “a new musical flow that we have never heard before at least in Cd Juarez”. Boba Cabaret owner Chris Waggoner was truly amazed at the performance of this novel group. “I have never heard these particular musical pieces played in this style. The results are very entertaining and I am sure that those who come see these performers will leave the cabaret as impressed and entertained as I was.” Almitri & Bennet have performed at various venues in El Paso and Cd Juarez including the Bi-National Festival of Independent Cinematography. Dinner seats at 6 pm with show time at 7 pm. Cocktail show seats at 8:15 pm with show time at 8:30 pm. Tickets for the dinner shows are $25 which includes hors d'oeuvres, dinner entree, and beverage (beer and wine included). New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road. Monday - Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, Sunday 12 noon - 5 pm. http://www.frhm.org/ / or  craig.massey@state.nm.us This exhibit shows the stylistic evolution of popular regional artist. Featuring traditional retablos and paintings from her earlier work, the exhibit also displays some of Romero’s more recent work, which incorporates local wildlife and Native American symbolism with traditional saints. The show will be in the Museum Arts Corridor through August 2.

Kirkpatrick, Associate Director of Human Systems Research, Inc, Las Cruces, will talk on “The El Paso & Southwestern Railroad: An Archaeological and Historical Perspective”. This railroad was a major transportation link across southern Arizona, New Mexico, and into El Paso, TX. Archaeological and historical investigations at the Pratt, Victorio, and Hermanas stations have provided new information on the workers and their families. Mr. Kirkpatrick will show some of the historical documents and artifacts recovered from studying the archaeological remains of these stations. Light refreshments served.

Dr Bibel teaches traditional engineering courses and several innovated new courses featuring engineering
disasters. He recently completed the Air Line Pilots Association’s Advanced Accident Investigation Course and has written Beyond the Black Box: The Forensics of Airplane Crashes. The book attempts to teach high school science through unusual airplane accidents and crashes. Beyond the Black Box was favorably reviewed by “New Scientist, the New York Times and the Library Journal and was featured in the RAF News. Dr. Bibel also authored a related article appearing in the New York Times, International Herald Tribune and China Daily titled: Listen Up and Fly Right. The show’s producers will hold an equestrian parade through the plaza in Mesilla on April 26, which also includes a “Blessing of the Ride.” They are looking for local riders and riding groups to escort the trail ride participants. The first is April 24 at Double Eagle Restaurant in Mesilla with show host Tom Seay and Rick Potts, chief of the Department of Conservation and Outdoor Recreation with the National Park Service. The second banquet will be at the Las Cruces Fairgrounds on April 25. Advance reservations are required through the show’s Web site. Seay said the show chose Las Cruces and Mesilla because of the friendliness of the people and the warm community.
